ABSTRACT

Objective: Pharmaceutical documents such as the common technical document, package inserts (PIs), and interview forms (IFs) are available at the website of the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency. However, because these documents were created with an emphasis on human readability in paper form, it is difficult to use the information included and interoperate these documents with computers. Using IFs, we will investigate how to structure pharmaceutical documents in the AI era to achieve both human and machine readability.Design/Methods: The IFs of arbitrary selected ten drugs were structured into Resource Description Framework (RDF) according to the Drug Interview Form Description Guidelines 2018 (updated version in 2019). The data were manually extracted from the IFs and entered into a spreadsheet before being converted to RDF by a written script. The PIs were converted to RDF in addition to the IFs. To examine the linkage with external databases, IDs in ChEMBL, which is a manually curated database of bioactive molecules with drug-like properties, were embedded in the RDF.Results: We demonstrated that the conversion of IFs and PIs into RDF makes it possible to easily retrieve the corresponding part of the PIs cited in the IFs. Furthermore, we quickly obtained the relevant data from ChEMBL, demonstrating the feasibility of linking IFs with an external database. Our attempt to RDFization of IFs is expected to encourage the development of web applications for healthcare professionals and the development of datasets for AI development. Conclusion: We could easily interoperate IFs with other pharmaceutical documents and an external database by converting IFs into RDF following the description guidelines. However, problems such as how to deal with items that were not described in the description guidelines were indicated. We hope that discussions will grow based on this effort and that related industries will move toward accomplishing effective use of these documents.

ABSTRACT

This commentary discusses recent developments in 'knowledge graph' technology over the course of the Covid-19 pandemic. Recently experiencing a surge in popularity, knowledge graphs are technologies that assist with data integration through structured metadata modeling. Researchers tag and collate vast amounts of diverse data using knowledge graphs, yet problems related to semantic drift and more salient issues related to the political economy of information and communication technologies persist. Researchers should anticipate that the semantics of these Covid-19 knowledge graphs can change over time. Equally important, researchers should also consider all stakeholders involved, including those stakeholders that might be excluded.

ABSTRACT

Libraries and documentation centers haven't a methodology guide to transform their RDF data into knowledge graphs, which prevents them from taking advantage of the facilities of this tool in the search and retrieval of information. This methodology was proposed for the transformation of bibliographic data in knowledge graphs. ANCORP was presented from the analysis of the techniques of incrustation, cleaning and checking of knowledge graphs. This methodology was divided into two parts: part I dedicated to the construction of the knowledge graph, and part II dedicated to solving the processes of information retrieval. With the implementation of the methodology, qualitative leaps in the information retrieval and in the quality of the data are corroborated(AU)

ABSTRACT

Cuba is carrying out an intensive introduction of the ICT in the society, developing and deploying information systems to increase the efficiency of several economic and social sectors. In this context, several government institutions are publishing open data; however, these data are published using diverse formats and standards, without explicit relations between them, with high dispersion and low data integration capabilities. In this paper, we state some reflections about the use of the linked open data in Cuba and some challenges affecting the massive adoption of them in the country. We point out that the openness of the linked open data in Cuba requires the use of adequate mechanisms related to an updated technological infrastructure, an adequate legal framework and an adequate synergy between the producers and consumers of the linked open data in the country(AU)

ABSTRACT

The absence of a linked data model in the context of the Virtual Health Library of Cuba (VHL) causes deficiencies in the semantic interoperability of content and information retrieval. In addition, as added problem, the documentary component entities have different levels of bibliographic description and subject scope. This article proposes the design of a procedural framework to facilitate semantic interoperability between linked datasets of VHL, standardizing their core classes and properties. Such a procedure, implemented in the ontological model called Ontomed, is a theoretical and conceptual approach that allows modeling the main entities, attributes and relationships in the context of the VHL. A direct impact will expect on three key dimensions: 1) characterization of context implementing the procedural framework 2) formalization of the components of the ontological model and 3) selecting an experimental sample on the stage of the VHL.
